Description: The 488 Spider uses the same 3.9 litre twin-turbo V8 as the GTB, producing 670 ps at 8,000 rpm and 760 Nm, sent through a seven-speed DCT to the rear wheels. The retractable hard top consists of two panels that disappear behind the seats in fourteen seconds, and can do so at speeds up to 45 km/h. The whole assembly occupies just 100 litres of space, against 150 to 200 litres for a conventional hard top, leaving the car's lines intact. To compensate for the loss of the roof, Ferrari reinforced the chassis front and rear and reworked the aluminium alloys used. The result is torsional rigidity that Ferrari claims matches the coupé, at the cost of 50 kg. Fun fact: the glass rear window between the buttresses moves entirely independently of the roof, across three positions. With the roof down it acts as a wind deflector, with the roof up you can lower it to hear the V8 without getting wet.
